Committee Function:It shall be the duty of the Committee on Ways and Means to examine and consider the state of the treasury; to consider and report on all bills and resolutions relating to raising money by a state tax and the apportionment of same; matters relating to taxes and fees on tobacco; all dedicated funds except for the highway and turnpike funds; state fees, and all methods of raising revenue for the state; and such other matters as may be referred to it. The Committee on Ways and Means shall report to the House in the form of a resolution its estimates of state revenues on a periodic basis.
Personal Biography
Second generation American; all four grandparents immigrated to US from Eastern Europe around 1900 fleeing anti-semitism.
Bachelor's degree (Sociology major, Psychology minor) 1972; M.S. and Ed. S. (Counseling and Personnel Services) 1974; SUNY Albany.
Married; one daughter
Professional history includes working in and directing substance abuse and DUI programs; non-profit organizations addressing education; as a home and office organizer and move manager; and as a contra dance caller.
Served on and/or chaired Boards of Directors of non-profits addressing substance abuse treatment, public library, public education policy, child care, folk music and dance, community arts, and community theater.
